A simple stencil …

For the tapirs themselves, I used a simple stencil - cut from a manilla envelope. However the finished print looks a bit 'rough' and stark against the background. I'm thinking I need some Jungle! Some foliage! For a while now, I've been thinking of printing from textured wallpaper. I found some 'anaglypta' border material ….. might just do the job, as long as it's not too busy for the more simple images of the tapir.

First thing I'm going to need is a base ...

First thing I'm going to need is a base ….. a colour background for the tapirs to appear against. A white circle will double as a clock face and also as the white areas of the tapir. I'll tape the edges and then cut a circle mask for the centre. A neutral colour would suffice …. Unbleached titanium should do it.

Replacing Cats with Tapirs

Taking Sarah Young's 'cats' as a base I start to replace cats with tapirs. There's a few liberties taken with the anatomy of the tapir ... but hey, it's art right?

Tapirizing a box

How to Tapirize the box? I've always loved the work of Sarah Young, a British artist.(www.sarahyoung.co.uk/). I particularly like this image of cats. Depending on which way you look at it, there are either 2 or 4 cats. I would like to try this with Tapirs ….. let's see if I can make it work ……..

Time for Tapir Begins

This year's fund-raising project is entitled 'Time for Tapirs'. It'll be a clock - a clock with a Tapir theme - a clock with a difference.

One of the challenges in a fund-raising project is to keep the costs low. The more you spend on materials, the less goes to the charity. Logical right? But who wants an object that looks cheap. So, I'm going to start with a confectionery box (they're really inexpensive and ubiquitous). Now I've got thirty boxes and thirty clock parts, so the rest of the project will be about the look and feel of the box itself. I can imagine there will be some simple printing involved as well as, hopefully, some paper magic. Note that the clock shown above is just a base ..... lots to do yet!
